‘De Amsterdamse Poort’ is al bijna vijftig jaar is het de plek waar kunstenaar Michael Rieu startte een project om deze belangrijke entree van de stad te verlichten door middel van enorme kunstwerken op het nu overdekte gebouw, als teken van dankbaarheid aan de stad Haarlem. 

Het project werd volledig gefinancierd door Rieu zelf. De werken zullen het gebouw sieren totdat de restauratie van ‘De Amsterdamse Poort’ is voltooid. Het werk van totaal 300 m2 werd in kleinere delen gesneden en gesigneerd te koop worden aangeboden. De inkomsten zijn bestemd voor degenen die het zwaarst zijn getroffen door de Corona-pandemie. Wanneer u een uniek stuk van dit gigantische kunstwerk aanschaft, steunt u daarmee de Voedselbank Haarlem en de Kindertelefoon.

‘De Amsterdamse Poort’, one of the most beautiful locations of the city of Haarlem, is, for almost fifty years now, the place where artist Michael Rieu runs his studio. Rieu initiated a project to lighten up the important entrance tot he city by placing enormous works of his art on the now covered building, as a sign of gratitude to the city of Haarlem. The project is completely financed by Rieu himself. The works will adorn the building until the restororation of ‘De Amsterdamse Poort’ is completed.

Subsequently, the work of 300 m2 in total will be cut into smaller parts that are offered for sale - each one signed by the artist and provided with one of his characteristic 'heads',

The revenues will be set apart for those most heavily touched by the Corona pandemic. When you purchase a unique piece of this giant work you support the Food Bank Haarlem and the Child Helpline.

How does it work?
You can choose to buy the smallest format: a) measuring 50 x 50 cm for € 100,00 or b) 100 x 100 cm for € 400,00 (4 x a)) etc.etc. Then you deposit the amount on account

After the end of May, when the restoration of the building will be finished, you will receive a message with the date when you can come tot he ‘Amsterdamse Poort’ to collect your unique work of art.

You may also consider to let us place metal rings in the canvas or let us frame the work for you. When you would like to have it framed you must realize that the work will loose approximately 10 cm of it’s surface. Prices for framing on application.
